The cadastral plan identifies properties with lot numbers. The plan shows the proportions, area, shape and position of each property with respect to neighbouring properties. The cadastre is a registry of the State composed of multiple plans and documents prepared by different land surveyors. This registry is used to make a title public and to protect its rights. It is also used for property assessment and to establish the property lines. The government of Quebec currently the registers all public and private properties located on its territories as part of the cadastral renewal program. Over several years, this program will assign a unique lot number to all properties.
