Staking is all the survey operations performed by land surveyors by using survey markers to indicate the boundaries of a lot. The document is prepared for the sole benefit of the mandatory. Should the land surveyor notice that a determined property limit would disturb the existing occupation, no markers are placed. Nevertheless, the staking and the determining of the property limits remain valid; the staking certificate issued will be accompanied by a report explaining the situation. The process of staking is governed by the Rules and regulations regarding the processes of staking and of a layout survey, of the Ordre des arpenteurs-géomètres du Québec (L.R.Q., c.A-23, r.11).
